CHEERS! Beverage Program Q&As
Until the end of 2017, the cost of Carnival CHEERS (online purchases prior to departure) was USD 49.95 per person per day plus tips. The cost of CHEERS when purchased on the ship was USD 54.95 per person per day plus gratuities. There are a few reasons you could want the Cheers package…convenience, peace of mind, and cost savings. Do you like to pay upfront for everything and not worry about any charges onboard?

The rule aims to keep you from sharing free drinks while paying for only one package. Carnival's terms state there are no exceptions to this rule, and when we contacted the Carnival team, they confirmed that includes pregnant adults. The Carnival Cheers package takes care of drinks by covering almost all of your beverage consumption (alcoholic or otherwise) under one fixed price per day. It can save you money on your next cruise if you're planning to, well, drink like you're on a cruise.
What about buying a 'round of drinks'?
Also, if one passenger in a stateroom wants to purchase the package, any other guests over the age of 21 who share the same cabin must buy it. Is probably the most inclusive drink package a mainstream cruise line offers. Whenever people on message boards talk about the package, they seem to focus on the fact that it allows for “only” 15 drinks per 24-hour period. For years, Carnival has had the lowest drink prices in the cruise industry, but as a result of their 2022 price increase, they’re now on par with the other mainstream cruise lines.
Carnival rarely offers a sale or promotion on the Cheers package. The only discount you usually see is the pre-cruise price which Carnival advertises as being 10% off (in reality, it’s now 8% off). Otherwise, the package doesn’t usually see any discounts or promo codes. Now, that’s not to say you shouldn’t get the drink package on your next cruise.

Does it work on Carnival’s private islands or in ports?
And help you decide whether it is worth it for your next trip. On May 19, 2013, "Cheers" Bar program pricing was changed on some ships. There were also some changes in Carnival's policy - "Cheers" package was "no deal" on the company's Caribbean private islands Half Moon Cay and Princess Cays). I can save so much money by just choosing to do many of the alternatives to the drink package! Since I use quite a few tricks and hacks here, I will do a separate blog post on this subject, coming soon.
Purchasing Carnival Cheers on departures from Texas
The “regular” way to purchase drinks is to buy them individually — so you pay the menu price for every beer or cocktail or soda that you drink. Given the cost of beverages on a cruise, the price can quickly add up. For some people, worrying about the cost can put a damper on the fun. Instead of enjoying their drink, they are thinking of the bar tab that awaits their account at the end of the cruise.
If purchased on the ship, the new price was USD 56.95 (plus 15% gratuity). Want to level up your drink with an extra shot called a 'double'? Sadly, you technically can’t do it on the beverage package. According to Carnival, a double shot is the same as ordering 2 drinks and is prohibited. However, to get around this, some cruisers will order the 2nd shot separately, but will wait the 5 minutes to grab it and add the shot to your previous drink.
When the bartender swipes your sail & sign card, your account will let them know that you’ve purchased the CHEERS! They will also place a sticker on your card when you activate the package at any bar once onboard, that identifies you as having purchased the CHEERS! Carnival also has a beverage package for non-alcoholic drinkers called “Bottomless Bubbles”. It’s for unlimited fountain soda and juice; not water. Program participants must wait five minutes between drink purchases, and all bottles and cans are served opened. The five-minute wait time also includes ordering double shots.

Drink while in a US port (embarkation day or any US ports of call) you will be charged applicable state and/or local taxes based on the cost of the drink. Yes, even with the beverage program, you’ll pay taxes if in US and the fee will go onto your Sail & Sign card. On top of that, the package gives you unlimited soda, zero-proof frozen cocktails, energy drinks, specialty coffee, and bottled water. The Cheers package gives you access to all beer, wine by the glass, spirits, and cocktails under $20.
The onboard price for the drink package will increase to $74.95 per person per day, plus the service charge. Put simply, this package is an “all-you-can-drink” plan that covers alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages purchased aboard the ship. So instead of having to pay each time you get a beer or a cocktail from the bar, you simply pay one flat rate, and your drinks are included. "Carnival CHEERS" program is a flat-rate priced All-You-Can-Drink beverage package of Carnival Cruise Lines (alcohol and soda included).
Before I start, remember to be sure to enjoy your drinks, but be sure to always drink responsibly. Be aware that voyages to some areas of the world (Europe) may carry a VAT (additional tax) per package. Also, there are certain port restrictions and rules you can find on the official CHEERS! Bringing you 15 years of cruise industry experience.
First in February 2016, then again in August 2018, Carnival enhanced its CHEERS! Beverage program and now it includes more non-alcoholic beverages, high-quality brand spirits, and wines by the glass. CHEERS program allows passengers to enjoy a wide selection of drinks by paying a flat daily rate. Passengers must be 21 or older to buy the CHEERS package.
In our experience on the cruise line, that covers just about anything you could want. The good news is that most drinks served on the ship are included in the beverage package. Carnival recently bumped up the price of the package on shorter cruises of five days or fewer.
